What Is Spinal Decompression?Spinal decompression therapy is a non-surgical traction-based treatment outcome for herniated or bulging discs in the neck and lower back.
Anyone who has back, neck, arm or leg pain may be helped by spinal decompression therapy. Traction is the literal language and decompression is the metaphorical. Traction (which is technically axial elongation resulting in intervertebral distraction) is necessary to allow decompression (reduction of pressure on the disc). There is no device that uses pressure sensing equipment during every treatment and therefore the FDA, Medicare, and Blue Cross group decompression tables in the same patent category as traction tables. The two words can be used interchangeably. |
